The Club, originally known as Scarborough Sailing Club was formed in 1895 and had various bases in the town before moving to its present situation in the Lighthouse in 1952.
The Club is in an iconic position and has enviable views across the harbour and the South bay, especially from the balcony where all the activities in the vicinity, both on and off the water can be observed.
The Club House is leased from Scarborough Borough Council and this was last renewed in 1996 for a period of 28 years.
Scarborough Yacht Club is an established RYA Training Centre and has a healthy cruising & racing fleet of over 60 boats, a mix of sail & power. Since the outer wall has been reinforced, the harbour is now suitable for year-round sailing and has become very popular with visiting yachts. The leisure usage of the harbour has grown in recent years with the addition of floating pontoon berths.
