Northener

Now acts as committee boat for the RYYC regatta at Bridlington

Owner David Stamford is presently a Life member, Rear Commodore Power and Honorary Timekeeper at the RYYC. For 15 years he was secretary of the Yorkshire One Design class and has sailed JOCA, a YOD for 25 years and is also Lifeboat Operations Manager (Bridlington Lifeboat)

Northener is a classic boat in the true sense. She was the first of her class the Hull was built by Colin & Victor of Ardleigh Plastics COLVIC. She was fitted out at West Stockwith on the Trent for Ronnie Gresham of the RYYC a fellow YOD sailor. He called her Northerner after which all other colvic 26ft 6in motor boats were named (strictly speaking only West Stockwith boats should have the name but it seems have expanded to cover all the hulls which have been made and fitted out anywhere). When Ronnie came to register the name at Lloyds he had to slightly alter the spelling to Northener. I purchased her from his daughter (another life member of the RYYC) and incidentally a The Jo part of the YOD JOCA I sailed for 25 years with Eric Austerfield. So Northener has always been an RYYC boat and has always flown the Blue Ensign of that club.

The Boat is widely travelled through most countries of Europe From Finland in the North to the South of France round most of England Including inland areas YORK, LINCOLN LEEDS, NORWICH, LONDON, EDINBOROUGH, GLASGOW, etc.
